We raise crested cavies in black, red and currently we are producing some orange, chocolate and beige. We are only showing crest color in the blacks and reds, but are developing into the other colors soon.

Currently we are breeding to two boars.

One is a chocolate self of excellent type.

The other is a red , somewhat light with a good head, but a little light in the body.

Both are descended from this boar

Curley

In his short career he picked up 13 GC legs and sired many show winners. He was lost in the fire and is severely missed.

All of the sows are interrelated in one way or another.

This is the crested Chocolate self boar.  He's a little settled in the center  back, but he's going on 4 years old and most of it is age.  He carries and excellent crown and head, and like most breed boars is a little out of condition.  And though it's a little hard to see, he also carries excellent color with a good under color.

Self Black White-Crested Senior sow.  Where Cresteds are concerned, you are breeding for a perfect white spot in the middle of the forehead.  only one out of seventy on an average carry the proper mark.  most have extra white or not enough white.  Within crested cavies only  self denotes a pig without any white.  in other breeds self is used to describe a pig that is all one color from nose to tail and from tip of hair shaft to base ( self colors are white, red, cream , red eyed orange, black, chocolate, beige, lilac and the elusive blue in the USA)

This is my new pair of showable white crested red eyed orange boars (littermates)  They are definitely REO's and not reds and carry a wonderful dark and excellent color.  The one on the left has the better crest as far as evenness of white, but the one on the right has excellent type while his brother has only fair type.  The one on the right has a sparse section in the white (yes there are hairs there but they're difficult to see in this picture)   they are two weeks old----- side note the picture of the red junior boar baby is a red eye flash from the camera

This is my other breeder boar, a grandson of the famous Curley.  As you can see, he carries the excellent red color of Curley's line, and while he has enough white to enter the ring, it is really too sparse on the upper half to compete well.  But he is throwing nice things and most of his red children match his color.  He is a little light weight in the body though

This is the first showable boar born since the fire.  His crest is very similar to his famous ancestor, but his body is miles lighter.  His dad is the red senior boar, so he carries the genes for the darker red.
