It all started with Eagle River Creations

We are the Friedlines: Barry, Deb, Beth and Jason; and we currently live amid the rolling farmland of south central Pennsylvania USA.

A long time ago we started Eagles River Creations, a mixed craft and gift business specializing in cast ceramic and tooled leather goods.

Deb is a certified ceramic teacher dabbling in sculpture, drawing and painting. She has a background in math and science. Deb currently manages a 100 run boarding kennel in lower PA (www.grandmashouseforpets.com)

Barry is our leather tooler and woodworker, taking Deb's patterns and giving them life. Our daughter, Beth, has an ability with languages and an ambition to teach. She has also inherited her parents love of critters. Jason is only one year old.  In this family, who knows where his life will lead him.

We have always had animals. We were introduced to the wonderful world of cavies by a friend, and soon graduated to the show table. At the height of our breeding, we had a herd numbering over 500, in all available breeds. We were often seen in the ACBA point winners starting our second year in at least 3 breeds. We were the Pennsylvania exhibitors of the year three years running, and the last year our daughter also won the youth division.

Death of the Eagle

October 25, 1997 was the great fire. While we were away from home a fire started in the farmhouse we were renting. When we arrived home the house was fully engulfed. We lost our household pets on the first floor, but the efficient and thoughtful firemen expended the necessary effort to carry our wall caging units from the basement, saving most of our piggie breeding herd (then around 200) from the smoke filled building. While most of them needed to be sold, we were able to keep what is now the core of our current herd.

It was during the aftermath of that fire, that we received our introduction to the Chinese Crested dogs we have now. A kind friend gave us Randi, a three year old bitch that needed to be re-homed. And we have been in love ever since.

Rise of the Phoenix

We made a conscious decision to breed the wonderful dogs we had come to love so much. And we began to wonder what to name our kennel. We had always had eagle names. Then Barry hit on the idea that since it started with the fire; in essence WE were the Phoenix, reborn from the old in the fire that was death and rebirth. And with the rebirth of our life, we combine all that we are into one- Phoenix Pharms; dogs, cavies, and crafts. In memory of those gone before and a symbol of what we have become. Come explore and share with us; the many facets of the Phoenix.
